Matt Van Gilder

Head of Ecommerce & Digital Experience


Marketing and technology are Matt’s passions. Today, he applies that passion by creating an engaging digital grocery experience simplifying customer’s lives and providing them with the tools and nuggets of inspiration they need to sensibly feed themselves and their families.

Rewind: during high school, he began working at a local supermarket and ended up loving the retail environment. When he graduated college, he was promoted into store management and directed teams, drove sales, and gained valuable leadership experience. Continuing to seek out ways to create a bigger impact, he joined SpartanNash’s corporate marketing team and served all consumers, beyond the four walls of one store, through loyalty and shopper marketing campaigns.

That all led him to his current path: digital leadership and transformation in the grocery industry. Over the last five years, he has worked to build out an experience allowing customers to get their groceries how and when they want them serving as the Director, Ecommerce & Digital Experience at SpartanNash.

Matt lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife (a fellow SpartanNash Associate). He holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Western Michigan University. When he is not working, you will likely find him traveling, exploring and enjoying music.
