Executive VP, Government Affairs, Retail Industry Leaders Association
Jennifer Safavian oversees RILA's federal and state advocacy, guiding an agenda that includes cybersecurity, e-Fairness, tax reform and other critical issues facing the retail industry. Prior to joining RILA in 2015, Safavian served four years in senior leadership positions on the House Ways and Means Committee, including serving three years as the Committee's Staff Director, where she managed a portfolio of issues, including tax, trade and healthcare. Earlier in her career, Safavian also served as Chief Counsel for Oversight and Investigations for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, leading a team of 20 attorneys with primary investigative authority in the U.S. House of Representatives and as Committee Counsel for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Safavian's nearly 20 years on Capitol Hill and extensive experience in high profile policy development led to her being named by the National Law Journal as one of the "Top 10 Lawyers on Capitol Hill" and as one of Roll Call's "Fabulous 50" Top Congressional Staff Members. Most recently, Safavian was named to The Hill's Top Lobbyists 2017 for her work advocating for tax reform on behalf of the retail industry.
