Michael Lippold

Founder & CEO


Michael brings 15 years of strategic development experience in fresh food with a deep focus on short shelf-life, perishable food. In 2013, he established FreshRealm to solve the complexity of fresh food supply. He spent a number of years fostering an evolution in food distribution by connecting players more efficiently under the FreshRealm model. Most recently, he led the company to refine its organizational structure, add team members, and solidify its products and strategy to focus on fresh meals in grocery retail. Michael leads the organization’s mission to bring a Fresh Meals Department to retail through vibrant destinations featuring delicious, fresh meals with little to no effort. Guided by his passion the company continues on a clear mission to inspire people to eat nourishing meals as part of a daily ritual in every community.

Michael has spent a lifetime studying macro industry dynamics, industry incumbents and new entrants; and in particular the fresh food industry.  He brings strategic development experience and the perspective from having studied industry trends to bear when setting the vision and path forward for FreshRealm.

Prior to founding FreshRealm, Michael served as the Director of Strategic Development of Calavo Growers Inc., an international consumer goods and farm products company that packages, and distributes avocados and other fruits, as well as their fresh prepared food to restaurants and stores worldwide. 

Earlier in his career, Lippold served in senior research and portfolio manager and quantitative roles in the financial industry, focused on deep macro and fundamental industry and company analysis across consumer, technology and medical sectors.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in financial economics from Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, Minnesota after growing up as one of five siblings in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation.    

When he’s not wholeheartedly devoted to being part of a food-centric solution, he spends his days as a devoted husband and dad in beautiful southern California.
